What three words best describe you?

Ambitious, Sensitive, Empathetic

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself

I’m a thrill seeker! I love an adrenaline rush so I seek out activities such as sky diving or bungee jumping. I have in fact been swimming with sharks and crocodiles.

Describe Pärla in 20 words

The eco-friendly toothpaste tab designed by dentists to be good for you and the planet.

Where did the name Pärla come from?

The word Pärla is the Swedish word for Pearl, so it resonates with pearl of the ocean, pearly white teeth, mother pearl. The tablets even look like pearls.

Where did the idea for the business come from?

As dentists we are continually being approached by dental companies who encourage us to sell their toothpastes.

As we delved further into the brands that were being offered to us we realised that our ethos did not align. This was from an ingredient and / or packaging perspective.

For example many pastes contain irritants or ingredients which have been sourced in a way that damages the environment.

Moreover, 1.5 billion toothpaste tubes entering the ocean and landfills every year is outrageous and unacceptable. It takes about 500 years for toothpaste tubes to decompose - so imagine every tube you ever used still exists on the planet somewhere today.

Simon, Adarsh and I came together, we had a vision, we want the next generation to be able to enjoy the beauty of the sea.

We knew we had to make a change.

Which celebrity’s teeth would you like to get your hands on and why?

Funny you mention that as I’ve actually worked on Rita Ora, Mel B and many more!

I would love to treat Joaquin Phoenix only because I think he is incredible and I could not stop staring at his teeth in Joker. So please feel free to put this interview out there and get him in to see me!

What in life do you most object to?

Injustice and inequality; I am all about equal opportunities, embracing change and giving people a chance.

I feel very passionate about ensuring all types of patients at the clinic can have treatment and feel happy and comfortable around my team.

We have everything from generation Z patients to patients in their 80’s.

Also, with Pärla we want it to be accessible to everyone.

What is your top object of beauty?

Has to be my eyebrow comb and tint, love my bushy Middle Eastern brows!

Where do you hope to see yourself and Pärla in 5 years’ time?

We aim to radically disrupt the outdated toothpaste market. In the same way as there has been a backlash against the glut of discarded plastic bottles clogging waterways, polluting the oceans and littering countries’ interiors.

We can now agree that, carrying plastic bottles of water around is uncool. This is how we want people to feel about toothpaste tubes. We want at least 5% of the UK population to convert from tubes to tablets by 2023.

What motivates you?

My initial motivation to embark on cosmetic dentistry was the impact that it had on people’s wellbeing and confidence. The way a new smile can change their confidence and their life.

The Pärla journey has been about impact on a global scale. We want to normalise toothpaste tablets in the same way not using plastic bags, coffee cups and water bottles has been normalised.

We’re also highly motivated by innovation which is at the forefront of Pärla and the dental clinics.

What’s the best piece of advice anyone has given you?

Stop caring about other people’s opinions and seeking validation from others.

I have started to realise that when you are in your own lane and you have self confidence other people’s opinions are not important and cannot affect you.
